What do you get when you cross 40 of the best vehicle wrappers in the world, amazing sponsorship from the biggest names in the industry, and a giant trophy? One of the best vehicle wrap competitions to date.
This year, two vehicle wrap competitions were held at the FESPA Digital Show 2016 in Amsterdam, Holland. The first competition, The World Wrap Masters – European Finals, was held on Tuesday and Wednesday and was a tough match up of difficult items to wrap. Contestants wrapped Audi A3 Sportbacks as well as motorcycle helmets. Jim Miller stepped up in a big way, broken ribs and all, and took home the gold and qualified for the Wrap Masters Final the next day.
The second competition was the big one – The World Wrap Masters Final. Contestants again had to wrap the Audis but there was a big surprise with the addition of traditional Dutch clogs. Some of the designs on the clogs were stunning and it really set the bar for creativity and thinking outside the box. When the dust had settled and the sweat was wiped from the brows of the competitors, Paint is Dead’s own Jim Miller from Miller Decals, Atlanta, GA, brought home the gold with Ruan Greeff, South Africa (Wrap Master Africa 2015) and Michael Szwacki, UK, taking 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Tim Evans of www.wrappermapper.com put it best when it came down to the judging – “Judging the competition were last year’s winner Kiss Lajos, John Duever and Justin Pate under the event organizer and head judge Ole Soleskin. Each judge stuck to a specifically developed pointing system as each competitor was scored during each round. The score sheets covered a variety of details from surface cleaning through final trimming while points were awarded from all three judges in independent review. The final result was a well-run and systematic approach by industry professionals.”
All in all, this event had an enormous spectator turnout and FESPA stepped up in a big way with their investment in to the future of the wrap industry. Congrats again to Jim Miller. Seeing the #godfatherofwrap do what he did in these two competitions was something of legend. There is no quit in this man and there is no wonder why so many of us look up to and respect him as much as we do.
